Poland may appeal Europe court on abortion

WARSAW, Poland, May 24 (UPI) -- Poland could appeal verdicts pronounced by Europe's rights court declaring Warsaw authorities violated abortion and gay rights.

Marek Jurek, of the Polish Right group, suggested Poland should appeal the two rulings, which he said violated rights guaranteed by Polish law, Radio Polonia reported Thursday.

Jurek said the Polish government should defend the right to life in the case of abortion and to protect morality in the case of gay and lesbian marches.

In March, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France, ruled a 35-year-old Polish mother was denied her rights when she was refused an abortion on health grounds.

In April, the Strasbourg rights court ruled Poland violated human rights when Warsaw authorities banned a gay and lesbian march in Warsaw in 2005.
