LOS ANGELES, May 21 (UPI) -- MySpace.com announced Monday it is providing attorneys general across the United States with information about registered sex offenders.
Fox Interactive Media, which owns the popular networking Internet site, said in a news release it is identifying and deleting sex offenders from its Web site with the use of Sentinel SAFE. The information it finds on its Web site about sex offenders also is then passed on to the Multi-State Attorney General Executive Committee, the company said.
"In addition to immediately removing registered sex offenders from MySpace, our plans have always been to provide the information collected by Sentinel SAFE to law enforcement, including the attorneys general," said Mike Angus, executive vice president and general counsel for Fox Interactive Media.
He went on to say the company is pleased to be working with state attorneys general "to devise a solution that allows us to provide this information in a way that enables law enforcement to use it in criminal investigations and probation or parole proceedings."
Sentinel SAFE was implemented May 2 after nearly a year of development and testing. It uses state sex offender registries and e-mail addresses to identify registered sex offenders and automatically deletes their profiles.
