Jesus figure's followers fill amphitheater

ORLANDO, Fla., May 6 (UPI) -- Followers of a man who claims to be Jesus Christ reincarnated packed an amphitheater in Orlando, Fla., during the weekend to hear his controversial message.

While police patrolled outside the Lake Eola amphitheater Saturday, Dr. Jose Luis De Jesus Miranda spoke to his faithful of his message as the alleged reincarnation of Jesus Christ, WKMG-TV, Orlando, reported.

Christian protesters were at the event demonstrating against the practice of Miranda's followers to decorate their bodies with "666" tattoos.

"We are just questioning their faith and their '666' tattoos," one said. "We just want to learn more so we can relate more between being a Christian and believing in this and who the true Jesus is."

Born in Puerto Rico, Miranda has a history of drug and petty theft charges and has admitted to being a recovering heroin addict.

Despite his dubious past, Miranda alleged he is seen as a god in nearly 30 countries worldwide, the report said.
