Eatery sued for alleged metal in food

NEW YORK, May 6 (UPI) -- A New York eatery is being sued by a former customer who alleges that she consumed metal shards inside her vegetarian meal that injured her stomach.

Debra Daly has filed a nearly $1 million lawsuit against Zen Palate, a vegetarian restaurant in Union Square, for the alleged metal shards in her food last August, the New York Post reported Sunday.

Daly said that while she eating a Sweet and Sour Sensation plate Aug. 7, she found a thumb-sized piece of metal amidst the food.

"It looked like a piece of barbed wire," she said.

She then began to spit up blood and stomach scarring was later found during an emergency endoscopic procedure.

The Post said the restaurant's corporate office has not responded to the allegations made in the suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.
