RALEIGH, N.C., April 20 (UPI) -- The sister of Cho Seung-hui, the Virginia Tech student who killed 32 people in a shootout at the school, said Friday her family is in a "living nightmare."

Cho Sun-kyung is the first member of the family to make any public comment since the shootings. She released a statement through a North Carolina lawyer, The Los Angeles Times reported.

"I feel like I don't know this person," Cho Sun-kyung said. "We never could have envisioned that he was capable of so much violence."

The family lives in Centreville, Va., but the FBI said they are staying elsewhere.

Cho Sun-kyung said she and her parents are cooperating with investigators seeking to learn more about her brother's motives.

Cho Seung-hui shot himself after killing a female student and a resident adviser in a dorm and 30 students and faculty members in a classroom building.

"Each of these people had so much love, talent and gifts to offer, and their lives were cut short by a horrible and senseless act," Cho Sun-kyung said.
