Student in credit card hidden fee lawsuit

YUCAIPA, Calif., April 1 (UPI) -- A college student in California is involved in a national class-action lawsuit over hidden credit card fees charged to him by Wells Fargo Bank.

Joshua Endres was an 18-year-old Crafton Hills College student in 2002 when he agreed to open a "College Visa Credit Card account" at a Wells Fargo branch in Yucaipa, Calif. Endres was not told of the $10 charge to be incurred each time Endres overdrew his checking account, even by as much as 1 cent, the Riverside Enterprise.

Nearly five years later, Endres is still struggling to pay off his last $300 in debt, largely due to the fees. Endres is now a music major at Cal Poly in Pomona.

Although Endres' attorney calls the Wells Fargo fees a "hidden profit center" and condemns the bank for preying on college students, the bank's defenders point out numerous reckless overdrafts by Endres, the newspaper said.

Endres reportedly overdrew his account 62 times in one year, causing him to pay $620 in fines so he could obtain $1,115 in cash.
