Body found in Houston garage

HOUSTON, March 26 (UPI) -- Residents of a Houston neighborhood say they complained to police about a foul odor coming from a nearby house for weeks before a body was discovered.

The residents said six weeks passed before police dropped in on the home for a welfare check and discovered a body in the trunk of a car parked in the house's garage, KPRC-TV, Houston, reported Monday.

"The garage was open an inch, and a horrible smell and a lot of flies were coming in and out," said John Connelly, who lives near the house. "Another cop showed up and did nothing about it. He said, 'write a letter to the HOA (Home Owner's Association).'"

Police said they also discovered a man, believed to be the owner of the home, passed out on the floor of the house. They said the man is suspected of attempting suicide with sleeping pills. Police said he is considered a person of interest in the investigation.
