Pakistani bride torched by in-laws

KARACHI, Pakistan, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- A woman near Karachi, Pakistan, was allegedly set on fire by her brothers-in-law after refusing to quit her job as a housekeeper.

Noori -- an 18-year-old newlywed whose last name was not released -- is being treated for burns at the Civil Hospital in Karachi. Noori told the Dawn News Service her husband is innocent in the matter.

While in the hospital, Noori continued to receive threats from her in-laws, pressuring her to drop charges against them, she told Dawn.

"It seems that some policemen are backing (my in-laws)," Noori said.
