Bullying victims in Japan commit suicide

TOKYO, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Two middle school students in Japan are believed to have committed suicide in separate incidents after being allegedly bullied in their schools.

The incidents occurred Sunday only days after the federal government ordered that schools must improve their measures against bullying, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun.

In the first incident in Honjo in the Saitama prefecture, a 14-year-old boy apparently hanged himself in a storeroom at his home. Police said he had been bullied into giving money to another student.

In the other incident in Tondabayashi in the Osaka prefecture, a 12-year-old girl killed herself by jumping from a housing complex, after leaving a suicide note. The school is investigating the case, suspecting she too had been bullied, says the report.

In a separate incident also Sunday, the 56-year-old principal of a primary school in another town is believed to have committed suicide apparently after failing to report a case of bullying to the school board.
