Brown projected as Ohio winner for Senate

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- At least one news outlet is projecting Democrat Sherrod Brown has beaten incumbent U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, in Tuesday's midterm election.

If the projection Tuesday evening by CBS News is correct, the Democrats have gotten at least one of the six new seats they would need to take control of the Senate.

The race in Ohio was often bitter, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

DeWine said Brown had a shoddy record during his eight years as Ohio secretary of state and seven terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, the newspaper said.

Brown said DeWine was a "desperate candidate" with no ideas on the economy.
