LONEDELL, Mo., Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Police in Missouri searched Saturday for a week-old baby, who the infant's mother says was kidnapped by a woman who slashed the mother's throat.
Abby Lynn Woods was wearing a pink dress with flowers on the collar when she was taken on Friday, Maj. Mike Copeland of the Franklin County sheriff's department said.
Her mother, Stephenie Ochsenbine, called police from a neighbor's house and said a woman had attacked her and taken her baby after entering the home asking if she could use the telephone, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Ochsenbine, 21, had surgery for multiple knife wounds.
Her 1-year-old son, Connor, also was in the house but was unharmed. Ochsenbine carried him to a neighbor's home seeking help.
"She was standing there with blood all over her and said, 'Somebody stole my baby,'" said Pat Bearden, a neighbor who called 911.
"I'm just praying they find the abductor and get the baby back," Bearden said.
