No sign of missing Marine in Colorado

ELDORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- A growing search Friday turned up no sign of for a missing Marine who fell and hit his head in Colorado's Eldorado Canyon State Park.

The has been going on for three days for Lance Hering, 21, who was on leave from his base in Pendleton, Calif., after returning from Iraq a month ago. He was last seen early Wednesday, hiking with his friend, Steve Powers, the Colorado Daily Camera reported.

The two were hiking around 10 p.m. when Hering reportedly fell 15 feet and hit his head. Powers said he sat by his friend for four hours until Hering regained consciousness.

Powers told authorities his friend seemed alert and aware of his location. However, when Powers returned to the site after setting out for help, Hering was gone.

Powers contacted police about 5 a.m. Wednesday, the newspaper said.

Volunteers and rescue teams have joined the search, scouring more than 415 acres.
