Germans capture second train bomb suspect

TRIPOLI, Lebanon, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Authorities in Lebanon are holding a 19-year-old man, identified by Germany as a suspect in the failed bomb attacks on two German trains last month.

The Deutsche Welle newspaper reported the suspect surrendered to Lebanese police in Tripoli and that Germany was trying to arrange his extradition. The suspect is accused of membership in a terrorist organization as well as large-scale attempted murder, the report said.

The bombs in the trains, made with propane tanks and crude detonating devices, failed to go off. Not long afterward, one of the suspects was arrested in Germany.

Another German newspaper reported security officials found explosives, wires, and detonators during a search of an apartment in Cologne where the suspects lived.

Two men, both Lebanese nationals studying in Germany, were spotted on security footage shortly before the bombs were planted and became suspects, the report said.
