Spanish police and chief arrested

MADRID, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- The chief of police and at least 11 officers were arrested in the Spanish coastal town of Torrevieja on charges of torture, El Mundo reported Wednesday.

Six of the officers were also accused of failing to follow criminal offenses and of falsifying documents.

Because the judge presiding over the investigation has ordered it closed, it is not clear whether charges of torture were referring to prisoners.
