Girl, 10, dies after Six Flags ride

GURNEE, Ill., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- A 10-year-old girl with a history of heart trouble has died after exiting an amusement park ride at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Ill.

Gurnee police Commander Jay Patrick said the girl, from Arlington Heights, Ill., was in "full arrest" by the time paramedics arrived at the scene Wednesday night, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Thursday. She was taken to Condell Medical Center in nearby Libertyville and was pronounced dead at about 7:15 p.m.

The girl's pre-existing heart condition appears to have caused the death, said Lake County Coroner Richard Keller.

He said an autopsy, scheduled for Thursday, would likely reveal the girl's death to be "natural death."

The girl had reportedly been running to her parents after getting off a ride, which police said was "possibly" the Spacely Sprocket Rockets roller coaster, described by the park as a children's roller coaster in the "scare free zone" of the park's Camp Cartoon Network.
