CRAWFORD, Texas, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Peace activist Cindy Sheehan has taken up residence in Crawford, Texas, for a second summer to protest the Iraq war under the nose of President Bush.
Sheehan told reporters she plans to remain in Crawford until early September on the land she recently purchased near the Bush ranch, the Waco (Texas) Tribune-Herald reports.
Despite temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, Sheehan led some 40 anti-war protestors in a march from her property to a checkpoint outside the presidential ranch Sunday afternoon.
She said she still wants to meet with the president but added that this year she'll be able to stay in Crawford because she owns property there.
"It's turned from, not just a place to hold George Bush accountable, but it's also a place where peace people gather to get re-energized and refreshed for the struggle," Sheehan said. "And we'll be here every time he's supposed to be on vacation."
Sheehan said after Bush's term expires she plans to donate her land to the city of Crawford to be used as a park named after her son, Casey, who died in Iraq.
