Hollywood moguls endorse Schwarzenegger

HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Hollywood Democrats Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Haim Saban have endorsed Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's bid for re-election.

Spielberg, the most financially successful motion picture director of all time, and producer Katzenberg, co-founder of DreamWorks SKG, like Schwarzenegger's "less partisan approach" and "more inclusive" government, a spokesman for the two moguls told Saturday's Los Angeles Times.

They also know Schwarzenegger, a former actor whose most famous film is "The Terminator."

Egyptian-born Saban, who produced the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" superhero children's program and eventually created a media empire, plans to hold a fundraiser for Schwarzenegger in October, campaign officials said.

Other Hollywood Democrats on the list of Schwarzenegger supporters include Jerry Zucker of "Airplane!" fame, movie producer Jonathan Sheinberg and Bud Yorkin, a longtime TV director and producer.

Schwarzenegger's growing Hollywood support could deal a blow to the governor's main opponent, state Treasurer Phil Angelides, by signaling to other Democrats that it's acceptable to embrace a Republican, the Times said.
