Serbia charges 10 for helping Mladic

BELGRADE, Serbia, July 14 (UPI) -- Belgrade's municipal prosecutors have filed charges against 10 persons for helping Bosnian Serb war crime suspect Ratko Mladic evade arrest.

The charges claim the 10 persons were aware that Mladic, the former Bosnian Serb military leader, was sought by the U.N. tribunal in The Hague on war crimes charges, at the time when they reportedly helped and provided shelter for the fugitive, Belgrade's B92 radio reported Friday.

Mladic is accused of genocide and crimes against humanity in the former Yugoslavia from 1991-95, including the Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys in July 1995, and the three-year siege and shelling of Sarajevo.

The European Union put off association talks with Serbia early in May after Belgrade failed to keep its promise to arrest and hand over Mladic to The Hague tribunal.

EU officials say Brussels will resume talks immediately after Mladic is extradited to the U.N. tribunal.
