U.N. court official says Mladic in Serbia

THE HAGUE, Netherlands, June 28 (UPI) -- A spokesman for the U.N. prosecution office in The Hague said Wednesday Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic is in Serbia.

Anton Nikiforov, spokesman for the U.N. tribunal's chief prosecutor Carla Del Ponte, denied media reports saying The Hague has information that Mladic is hiding in Bosnia-Herzegovina or that he had suffered strokes.

In his regular meeting with reporters in The Hague, Nikiforov said all available information show that Mladic is in Serbia and the Belgrade authorities could arrest him and transfer him to the U.N. tribunal, Belgrade's Beta news agency reported.

Nikiforov said Serbian authorities in contact with U.N. prosecutors never said Mladic is not in Serbia but only that they are doing everything in their power to find and arrest him.

Mladic is sought on genocide and war crime charges in the former Yugoslavia from 1991-95.

Early in May, the European Union interrupted association talks with Serbia until the Belgrade government delivers Mladic to The Hague tribunal.
