Cop held for Taser shooting of colleague

ENFIELD, Conn., May 12 (UPI) -- A Connecticut police officer has been charged with reckless endangerment and assault for allegedly shooting a fellow officer in the face with a stun gun.

An arrest warrant said East Windsor Officer John Scavotto pointed an empty Taser at fellow Officer Arkadiusz "Eric" Petlik and pulled the trigger. Then, the warrant said, Scavotto loaded the electrified dart and shot Petlik in the cheek and gums. Scavotto, claimed the safety was on, and faces charges of first-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree assault, the Hartford Courant reported.

He was arraigned in Superior Court in Enfield on Thursday and ordered back in court May 26. Scavotto was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond and ordered not to possess any weapons or dangerous instruments.

Petlik was expected to remain on medical leave until Monday.
