Caught with boyfriend, teen kills herself

NEW YORK, May 11 (UPI) -- A panicked eighth-grade New Jersey girl caught at home alone with her boyfriend by her mother leapt to her death from the family's sixth floor apartment.

The incident happened Tuesday night when Clelia Resto came home early from her hairdressing job and was unable to get into the apartment, the New York Post reported Thursday. The woman knocked loudly, and after several minutes, her 14-year-old daughter Maria opened the door wearing pajama bottoms and a tank top.

The mother then spotted the 16-year-old unidentified boyfriend and ordered him out, as her daughter ran into a bedroom, police said.

When Resto went into the room, her daughter was nowhere to be found and the window was open.

Outside, her daughter lay dead, face down, the newspaper said.

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward De Fazio said the medical examiner ruled Ortiz's death a suicide.
