BOSTON, May 10 (UPI) -- A sewage plant worker in Massachusetts found what appeared to be part of an infant's arm in a sewage treatment plant at Boston Harbor.

The sheriff's office said the worker at the Deer Island Sewage Treatment Plant discovered the limb in an area of the plant where solid materials are separated from liquid flow, reports the Boston Globe.

A spokesman for the district's attorney office said the limb was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston to determine the age of the child and time of death. Other details were not provided.

Separately, the Boston Herald reported that investigators suspect the arm came from an unwanted newborn and are waiting to hear from someone who might know the mother.
