Man killed by tot playing with loaded gun

ALAMEDA, Calif., May 9 (UPI) -- A 3-year-old Alameda, Calif., boy who found a loaded gun in an apartment bedroom accidentally shot and killed a 20-year-old man, reportedly the boy's father.

Police did not identify the child or the victim of the Monday afternoon incident but neighbor Leroy Gore told The San Francisco Chronicle his neighbors were a young couple with two young children, and that the victim was the father who lived in the apartment.

Police told the newspaper the 3-year-old was playing with the weapon when it went off.

Gore said he saw the victim being wheeled out by paramedics, and said he was "shot dead-on in the chest."

Tuesday, police were interviewing people who were in the building at the time, the report said.

California law allows prosecutors to file criminal charges against adults in cases where children find guns and accidentally shoot somebody.
