British Open back at St. Andrews in 2010

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland, April 20 (UPI) -- The British Open will celebrate its 150th birthday in 2010 at the place where it all began, the Old Course at St. Andrews.

The 2010 British Open will also be the 28th time the event is contested on the Old Course. This year's open is scheduled for July 20-23 at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

The Royal & Ancient, golf's international rule-making body and the sponsor of the British Open, announced the 2010 schedule Thursday. The open will be July 15-18 that year.

The British Open is considered the world's oldest golf championship, having first been played in 1860.

Last year's Open was played at St. Andrew's, with Tiger Woods winning his 10th major title.
