Thousands attend Sunni leaders' funeral

KARACHI, Pakistan, April 14 (UPI) -- Thousands of Pakistanis have attended the funeral of four top Sunni leaders killed by a suicide bomb in the southern city of Karachi.

The bomb, which exploded Tuesday at a prayer meeting honoring Mohammed's birthday, killed 57 Sunni Muslims and wounded at least 80.

Amid tight security Thursday evening, the funeral was held for the four senior leaders of the Sunni Tehreek movement.

Before the funeral began, enraged activists chanted anti-government slogans, claiming the government hadn't provided enough security for the Tuesday prayer meeting.

The army was called out to maintain order at the funeral, and have been patrolling city streets in recent days as the bombing was followed by incidents of civil unrest, Pakistan's Dawn reported.

In the days since the bomb attack, rioters have set four vehicles on fire.

Religious and political parties have called a strike for Friday to condemn the bombing.
