KINGSTON, Jamaica, March 31 (UPI) -- Jamaica has inaugurated its first female prime minister, Portia Simpson Miller.
Miller's swearing in marked the first time the Caribbean nation had a new prime minister in 14 years, marking the end of Prime Minister PJ Patterson's term.

In her inaugural address, Miller said the country should make less a deal about her sex and focus on reducing its high crime rate, which has grown in recent years, The Jamaica Star reported.
