Hamas government to return $50M to U.S.

The money was intended for economic development in Gaza following the Israeli withdrawal.

The State Department asked for its return following the election of a Hamas majority in the Palestinian parliament, the BBC reported. The U.S. government says it is reviewing all aid to the Palestinians.

Israel is also considering economic sanctions, including freezing the transfer of taxes it collects for the Palestinian Authority and barring Palestinians who work in Israel from crossing the border.
