Soldier to send flag to girl in flag flap

DULUTH, Ga., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A soldier in Iraq plans to send a flag to a Georgia girl who helped paint the star spangled banner on the pavement of her street.

Local officials in Duluth, Ga., ordered the painting removed. Some veterans objected that depicting the flag on a street, even a quiet residential one, is a serious violation of flag etiquette.

At a public meeting, 9-year-old Rachel Renbarger tearfully apologized for her part in creating the flag painting.

Sgt. Mark Kuenzi of the Georgia National Guard told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he plans to send Rachel the flag he has flown every day in Iraq. World War II veteran Don Ogden, who objected to the flag on the street, said he will help Rachel and her family put up a flag pole.
