Mom charged with arson and murder

CONCORD, N.C., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- A North Carolina woman has been charged with arson and murder for allegedly setting a fire that killed her son and daughter.

Lisa Louise Green originally told investigators that the fire last week at her home in Midland started in a room where the children were watching a movie and burning a candle and that the flames were so intense she could not get in to rescue them, the Charlotte Observer reported.

In an affidavit for a search warrant obtained by the Observer, investigators say that the fire clearly did not start in the children's room. They also said that the fire could not have been as fierce as Greene claimed at that time.

Greene is being held without bail in the Cabarrus County Jail.
