Man spared jail in fatal parking dispute

GLASGOW, Scotland, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- A man involved in a dispute over a Glasgow, Scotland, parking space that led to a grandmother's death from a heart attack has been spared a jail term.

Charles Freeburn punched Norman Whittle while his girlfriend, Carol McMillan, kicked Whittle's wife, Anne, three times in the head. Mrs. Whittle suffered a fatal heart attack a short time later.

Norman Whittle was furious about the sentence, the Glasgow Evening Times reported. The same judge, Lady Dorrian, gave McMillan a non-custodial sentence last year but was overruled by a higher court that sent her to prison for four years for culpable homicide.

"We are not happy at all, I think she (the judge) should be struck off," Whittle said. "He should have gone to jail at least, but he's walking away a free man."

Under the conditions imposed by the judge, Freeburn must stay out of trouble for six months.
