Western aid workers kidnapped in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Four Western aid workers -- two Canadians, a Briton and possibly a U.S. citizen -- reportedly have been kidnapped in Iraq.

The BBC said a senior Canadian official confirmed the two Canadian nationals were seized in Baghdad Saturday.

The British Foreign Office later named a Briton believed to have been abducted with them.

The fourth is said to be a U.S. citizen, but there is no confirmation, the BBC said.

Dan McTeague, the parliamentary secretary for Canadians abroad, confirmed the Canadian abductions in an interview with CBC television.

McTeague said the aid agency involved had asked that no names be disclosed. He also repeated Canada's advisory for its citizens not to travel to Iraq.

The British Foreign Office named one of the kidnapped victims as Norman Kember from Pinner, near London.

At least 200 foreigners have been abducted in Iraq over the past year and a half.
