Muslim school cannot require headscarf

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- The Equality Commission in the Netherlands said a Muslim school should not have refused a job to a Muslim woman who refused to wear a head scarf.

The Islamic College of Amsterdam has been asked to respond to the ruling, Expatica reported.

A board member of the school reportedly said that if Samira Haddad was not a Muslim she would be free to cover her head or not. But the school said that a Muslim teacher should set an example for the students.

The commission does not have the power to compel the college to hire Haddad.
