Police search for Moss stalker

NEW YORK, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Kate Moss has found herself caught up in a police hunt for an alleged sex attacker who once said he was addicted to the British supermodel.

Moss had just returned to New York last week from her first modeling assignment since she emerged from a clinic in Arizona -- where she had been seeking treatment for cocaine addiction -- the Sunday Times of London reported.

She awoke on Thursday morning to find that the man dubbed the "fire fiend" by New York's tabloid newspapers had once claimed he and Moss were "meant to be together."

New York police are hunting for Peter Braunstein, a Manhattan journalist suspected of a bizarre Halloween attack on a former colleague. Braunstein is reported to have dressed as a fireman and set off smoke bombs to gain entrance to his victim's apartment. She was bound with tape and assaulted for 13 hours, the newspaper said.

Braunstein, a former writer for the Village Voice and Women's Wear Daily, published an article in BlackBook magazine in 2003 called "Stalking Kate." Police say they are concerned Braunstein may have been trying to "impress" Moss by getting his name in the papers.
