Bolivia sets new election date

LA PAZ, Bolivia, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Bolivia has set a new date for presidential elections after voting was delayed once already, La Razon reported Wednesday.

Citizens of South America's poorest nation will head to the polls Dec. 18, said interim President Eduardo Rodriguez.

The elections were delayed from earlier in December due to a disagreement regarding the redistribution of congressional seats.

Bolivia's wealthier eastern provinces said they deserved more seats due to its population growth, as shown in a 2001 census. However, Bolivians from the poorer Andean region expressed concern that the gas-rich provinces in the east would break away to form their own country.
