Cayman Islands under hurricane watch

MIAMI, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- The Cayman Islands is under a tropical storm warning and hurricane watch as a tropical depression moves toward the area with winds near 35 miles per hour.

The storm was about 150 miles southeast of Grand Cayman, moving at about 2 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center reported Sunday.

The depression is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm by Monday night -- which would tie the record of 21 named storms in one storm season, set in 1933.

Rainfall accumulations of four to six inches are expected over the Cayman Islands and Jamaica, with isolated amounts of eight to 12 inches possible.
