Russia drops Tymoshenko from wanted list

MOSCOW, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko has been taken off Russia's most-wanted list, the Russian Prosecutor General's office announced Monday.

A statement said the warrant was lifted after she voluntarily appeared in Moscow during the weekend and gave evidence, and pledged to help investigators in the future.

Tymoshenko had been accused of bribing Russian defense officials while she headed Ukraine's main gas distributor, the now-defunct United Energy Systems, Pravda said.

She was one of the leaders of Ukraine's so-called "Orange Revolution," which ended Russian-backed rule and brought Viktor Yushchenko to power.

Yushchenko fired his former ally this month amid infighting over alleged high-level corruption.
