BAGHDAD, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Just days after the British army freed two of its soldiers from an Iraqi prison, Iraq's security chief agrees insurgents have infiltrated the police force.
Iraq national security adviser Muwafaq al-Rubaie told the BBC that he believes the infiltration affects "many parts of Iraq."
In the rescue mission, the British army said it was forced to take action because its two soldiers had been handed to a militia group by Iraqi police, the report said.
Separately, Britain's Defense Minister John Reid planned to meet Iraq's Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari to discuss the growing tension in Basra between the British army and authorities in the southern city.
U.S. military authorities had warned that the Iraq's police force was recruiting insurgents, the report said.
