"I answered the questions fully and openly," Daley said in a news conference. "When there is wrongdoing in my government, I take responsibility for it. I am committed to root it out and do everything I can to prevent it."

Daley said he does not consider himself a target of the investigation.

Two top administrators with personal ties to Daley were indicted this summer for allegedly rigging hiring tests to ensure jobs for campaign workers, the New York Times reported.

Eight of Daley's Cabinet members and three other top officials have either resigned or been fired since May in the scandal.

On Thursday, the mayor's office moved to fire 47 employees accused of a variety of offenses, including falsifying time cards and drug possession.
