Norwegian Alaska cruise delayed

SEATTLE, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- A Norwegian Cruise Line ship arrived in Seattle six hours late, forcing some passengers to stay overnight, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Friday.

The U.S. Coast Guard boarded the Norwegian Dream after it arrived in Elliott Bay ending an Alaskan cruise Thursday. Earlier, it had received a call from a passenger that two of the ship's four engines were not working, the newspaper said.

Norwegian Cruise Line officials in Miami said the ship has had a "minor technical issue" affecting its speed "for a number of cruises."

Norwegian promised to accommodate all stranded passengers who missed flights at a downtown hotel.

About 800 passengers expecting to embark on an 11-day cruise to Alaska were taken to the Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers for a free lunch and tour of Seattle until the ship was cleared for boarding, the Seattle Times reported.

The lunch reportedly was chips and snacks and there was no city tour. The ship didn't depart until about 9 p.m.
