North Iran floods leave 30 dead or missing

TEHRAN, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- At least 30 people were reported dead or missing after floods swept northern Iran Tuesday night, officials said Wednesday.

The Iranian News Agency quoted Ibrahim Karimi, of the Department of Construction in the province of Kalestan, as saying at least 10 people were killed and 20 others reported missing in the floods that hit the city of Kalala in the eastern part of the province.

He said heavy rains destroyed 300 residential units and damaged vast areas of agricultural land, while a large number of cattle perished.

Karimi said rescue teams were still removing rubble and searching for missing people.
