PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, July 20 (UPI) -- The European Commission said Wednesday it will donate more than $1 million in disaster relief to flood-ravaged Haiti.
The latest donation to the Caribbean nation is in addition to the $15 million the EU granted Haiti following last year's political and social unrest.
Earlier this week, the United States Agency for International Development said it will donate funds for disaster relief to Haiti, which was ravaged by Hurricane Dennis.
USAID initially will donate $50,000 to go toward providing potable water and emergency relief supplies for residents afflicted by Dennis and the subsequent flooding.
Inter-American Development Bank announced this month it is giving Haiti a $5 million loan for a flood early-warning system.
Haiti is often hit by hurricanes, causing numerous deaths. Dennis tore through the Caribbean before striking the U.S. mainland, killing at least 40 people in Haiti.
Officials said the Hurricane Dennis left an estimated 15,000 people homeless.
