Israeli plane enters Lebanese airspace

BEIRUT, Lebanon, June 14 (UPI) -- The Lebanese army reports Israel violated Lebanese airspace Tuesday with an unpiloted surveillance plane that operated for more than an hour.

An army statement said the intrusion occurred before dawn when the plane entered Lebanese airspace from the west over the Mediterranean Sea and flew for 70 minutes over south Lebanon.

Last week Lebanese army gunners fired at intruding Israeli warplanes without scoring any hits.

Israel has entered Lebanese air space on numerous occasions since it pulled out from Lebanon unconditionally in May 2000.

Lebanon has frequently complained about the intrusions to the United Nations, which urges self-restraint on both sides.
