Texas releases child molester

HOUSTON, May 3 (UPI) -- A convicted child molester who once asked to be castrated was released from a Texas prison Tuesday.

Larry Don McQuay was fitted with an ankle monitor and escorted to San Antonio where he will be in a work release program until July 2016, the Houston Chronicle reported.

McQuay's request for surgical castration led the Texas Legislature to enact a law to permit it on a voluntary basis for pedophiles, but it's not known if he was castrated.

In 1995, McQuay told a victims rights group he would kill his next victim if he wasn't castrated. He recently refused the group's request to release his medical records.

A short time after his first release from prison in 1996 for molesting a 7-year-old boy, McQuay was convicted of molesting children again. He again asked to be castrated.

McQuay was released under mandatory supervision after serving eight years of a 20-year sentence because of time served and good behavior, prison officials said.
