Top Saudi terrorist escaped death

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, April 13 (UPI) -- The Interior Ministry said terrorist Saleh al-Oufi was not among gunmen killed last week in clashes in northern Saudi Arabia.

Ministry spokesman Brig. Mansour Turki was quoted Wednesday in daily al-Watan as saying only one body remains unidentified but played down the possibility that it could be Oufi's.

Turki dismissed as rumors reports Oufi might have fled Saudi Arabia.

"Oufi is still a wanted person whom the authorities are searching for and will keep on tracing," he said.

Clashes last week in Ras resulted in the killing of 15 gunmen and the injury of five others.

Oufi figures on an official list of 26 most wanted terrorists blamed for a string of terrorist attacks which killed dozens of civilians and policemen since May 2003.
