Mauritania website complains

NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania, April 2 (UPI) -- A website for a Mauritanian tribe Saturday criticized American anti-terror organizations for including it as a site supporting terrorism and al-Qaida network.

The Ansar al-Boussadien site, established by the Boussadien tribe, said in a statement that its site has been categorized as a supporter of terrorism because of the word "ansar," meaning "supporters" in Arabic, insisting that the attack facing it was due to the "bankruptcy of the war on terror."

It added that "within the hysteria of the war on terror and the insanity of searching for al-Qaida and its supporters everywhere has led to failure, not only militarily, but also on the media and information levels."

The website said the "intentional distortion and electronic warfare against us is evidence of this failure."

The statement described Ansar al-Boussadien as a "cultural, tribal site, but despite its moderacy and clear public objectives, it continues to be described as a suspicious site that supports" the al-Qaida leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

It said the objectives of its website was to "link the present tribe" with its past religious identity, adding that it avoids political, religious and tribal sensitivities.
