Supreme Court again rejects Schiavo case

WASHINGTON, March 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Supreme Court Wednesday night again rejected a request from Terri Schiavo's parents to restore her feeding and hydration tube.

The tube was removed March 18 on the order of a Florida court at the request of her husband, Michael Schiavo. He has said she would not want her life prolonged under present conditions.

The Florida courts have ruled she has been in a "persistent vegetative state" since 1990 when a chemical imbalance brought on by an eating disorder caused a heart attack that deprived her brain of oxygen.

Terri Schiavo's parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, contend she can be rehabilitated with the proper care.

Wednesday's filing marks the sixth time the Schiavo dispute has reached the Supreme Court. Earlier filings by her parents, the House Committee on Government Reform, and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush were rejected by the high court without comment or dissent, as was the latest request.

The Schindlers again went to the Supreme Court after a federal appeals court in Atlanta refused to consider their petition earlier.
