Video shows Hariri convoy before blast

BEIRUT, Lebanon, March 28 (UPI) -- An Arabic-language TV network says a videotape it aired shows images recorded prior to a Beirut blast that killed former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

The 90-second tape recorded before the Feb. 14 explosion was broadcast on the al-Arabiya news network, which said the tape was recorded by a nearby bank security camera, CNN reported Monday.

The tape shows a slow-moving white pickup truck entering camera range. Moments later, the camera records what appears to be the final movements of Hariri's doomed convoy of black vehicles, CNN said.

The explosion killed 20 people, including Hariri. The tape did not capture the detonation itself, but the footage is considered a vital lead by the United Nations, which last week completed a 19-page report on the blast.

A U.N. investigation team told CNN it believes the blast may have been caused by the explosion of about 2,200 pounds of TNT carried in a 1995 or 1996 Mitsubishi truck.

The U.N. report says: "Syria bears primary responsibility for the political tension that preceded the assassination of former Prime Minister Mr. Hariri."
