The bodies of Phuangsri Kroksamrang, 58, and Somjai Insamnan, 27, both Thai-born, were found in the Adelaide River last March.

Trinh confessed to the killings during police questioning, but he later retracted the confession.

The pair has since maintained the women were killed by Asian gangsters.
