Mom accused of killing son, trying suicide

OSAKA, Japan, March 10 (UPI) -- An Osaka woman, upset over her husband's business future, has been arrested on suspicion of killing her 11-month-old son before trying to commit suicide.

Police quoted the woman, Shizu Yamagata, 49, as saying she killed her son "because I felt it would be pitiful to leave the child alone. I strangled him when he was sleeping," Kyodo News reported Thursday. The charge was expected to be upped to murder.
