Venezuela: Police rescue pitcher's mom

CARACAS, Venezuela, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Venezuelan authorities have rescued the kidnapped mother of Detroit Tigers pitcher Ugueth Urbina, El Nacional newspaper reported Saturday.

Police raided a remote hideout in the state of Bolivar and rescued Maura Villareal, who was taken from the home belonging to Urbina in Caracas on Sept. 1.

One of the kidnappers was killed during the raid, according to police.

When asked how she had been treated, Villareal tld El Nacional, "I can't say they treated me well or bad ... I only had one meal a day though."

Urbina's father was killed by carjackers in 1994.
